After having a long day at work, the only thing you look forward to is getting into your vehicle, driving home and relaxing under the hot soothing shower. Unfortunately, you unlock your car in the parking lot only to find that the remote key is not working. The simple device has one job, and that is to let you inside the vehicle (and probably open the trunk). If the remote doesn't work, it is in your best interest to figure out the problem as soon as possible so that you don't end up riding the bus home. This article will enlighten you on some of the primary causes of failure in car remote keys and what you can do to fix the problem.
Dead remote batteries
Car remote keys operate on batteries that provide power to the devices. Without power, the transmitter cannot send signals to the corresponding receiver in the vehicle to prompt it to unlock the car. So, if your remote isn't working, the first thing that you should assume is that the battery is not working, especially if you have not replaced them for a long time. If you may have a spare battery in the office, replace the old one and try using the remote again. If you don't have any spare, you can buy one at a supermarket or the local hardware store.
Damaged components
Your car remote has internal components that are critical to the proper functioning of the device. These include the transmitter, battery terminals, and some soldered components. If any of these parts are damaged or broken, the remote won't work even if you have a new battery. So, if you recently dropped the remote accidentally or banged it against a hard surface, some of its mechanics may be damaged. To fix the problem, you have the choice of replacing the remote or repairing the broken part.
Unresponsive receiver
Sometimes, the problem may not even lie with the remote – you may have a faulty receiver. The receiver is the device in your car that receives signals from the transmitter and unlocks the vehicle. Even with a functional remote, a faulty receiver will not respond to signals sent to the car. If you have ascertained that the remote is not the problem, it may be time to have the receiver inspected for physical damage. Luckily, it is easily replaceable, and you don't have to visit an auto repairer to do so.
Remote key problems can be devastating, but you don't have to get locked out of your vehicle. Contact a mobile locksmith so that they can unlock the vehicle for you and even help identify and fix the problem with your remote key.
