3 Keyless Entry Issues That Can Affect Access to Your Home

Blog

Keyless entry is an ideal access control system for your home. However, it may malfunction at an inopportune moment, such as when you want to get inside your house when it is raining. Below are some of the common keyless entry issues that might affect the working of your home automated entry system

The Batteries

A dead battery could be responsible for your inability to get into your house. Open the keyless entry remote control and observe the battery. Does it show any sign of wear, such as a leak? How long ago did you replace that battery? Have you noticed that you had to move closer to the door to use the keyless system? Your answers to these questions may provide helpful clues regarding the condition of the battery. Replace the battery yourself in case you realise that the defect is arising from an old battery. It is always important to have spare batteries in your car to be used in such circumstances.

The Buttons

The remote entry system may also fail in case one or more buttons on the unit become loose. Try pressing each of the buttons in order to confirm that it feels the same way as it has always felt. Push back any buttons that could have become loose. In case you detect difficulty using some buttons, you should contact the contractor who installed the door and ask for a replacement remote to avoid such inconveniences.

The Programming

Keyless entry systems may also malfunction if something happened to alter the programme upon which they were operating. The unit may, therefore, be unable to communicate with the sensors in the locks of your house. If you have the instructions, try reprogramming the entry system. You can also use your smartphone to check the website of the contractor to find detailed instructions on the steps to take to re-programme the keyless entry system. If you lack these skills, contact the keyless entry contractor who installed it for you.

Keyless entry systems are convenient for use at home and offices. However, you need to handle the remote unit issued carefully to prevent any damage since replacements can be expensive. Alternatively, select an access system that automatically opens when one approaches the door, although this is only ideal for public areas where there are additional access control systems, such as surveillance cameras and security personnel, to prevent unwarranted entry.
